Cab views - 30076 February 2007

A large number of people have asked us what the inside of the cab on 62-521/30076 looks like. Below are a number of photographs showing the layout and controls from both the driver and fireman's sides of the cab.

The locomotive looks almost as if she is sleeping, waiting for her next fire to spring into action. On Wednesday 7th February 2007, a few days before these photos were taken, Boiler Inspector Ian Farrance of Farncare Inspections conducted a pre-repair examination of the boiler. Both boiler and firebox were found to be in very good condition with only very minor pitting of the internal plate work apparent. The stays were found to be generally good other than one single stay in the back head adjacent to the lower gauge frame, which will require replacement. Both tube plates appear satisfactory. This physical examination indicates that 62-521's boiler is in as good condition as we had hoped, and should therefore require minimal refurbishment along with a retube to bring into servicable order. Hopefully 30076 will not be asleep for too long therefore!
