30075 Winter Maintenance - January 2008

Over January and February 2008 it was decided to check the right side big end bearing as well as the lubrication system on this side, which appeared to be losing oil more rapidly than the left side. This involved removing the motion which is seen in the photos below. Other jobs scheduled include refurbishing the grate and brick arch and attending to the ash pan doors which require re-aligning. Steve Masters' team have recently fitted an ash pan spray which will help extend the life of the fire grate and associated components and make operation of the damper controls easier.

A fire hole protector ring is to be fabricated and fitted and a deflector plate is to be trialled. A couple of boards on the cab floor will also be replaced, along with the steel shovelling plate. It is also planned to machine the faces of the clack valves and to service the whistle valve mechanism.

30075 is scheduled for service next on Sunday 2nd March 2008 when she will be hauling the Mothering Sunday lunch time dining and service train.
